How are PIPS Calculated?

We recognize that there are multiple ways of calculating pip results.  For example, when using a scaling out method (closing 1/2 or 2/3 of your trade at certain points), although many of our subscribers simply use one position and close part of the trade, some prefer to use multiple positions.  As a result, they might prefer to calculate pips gains and losses differently.

Because we are planning to use multiple sources for signals, and not all providers use a scaling out method, we chose to use a very simple, bottom line record of the signals as they were sent.  It records our entry and final exit.  It does not take into account money management techniques such as closing ½ or 2/3 of your position at certain levels to lock in profits which we are in the habit of doing with this current provider.  Although this technique is designed to protect profits, it may have an effect on how pips are calculated  (depending on whether you are using 1, 2 or more positions) and may alter the actual pip count by some methods of calculations.

CityPips is an honest service and encourages you to also look at the trade log to see how the signals played out for us using these money management techniques. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us.
